Abstract

The article focuses on functional foods, which offer bioactive compounds and nutrients that exceed what are required for survival by providing health benefits beyond basic nutrition. It states that eating about three servings of whole grains, such as brown rice, bulgur, and quinoa, daily can lower the risk of obesity. It adds that some fruits are high in antioxidants and have been linked with protection against cancer. Other functional foods such as fish, legumes, and nuts are also discussed.
