The article focuses on the flight control technology Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (Auto-GCAS). It states that the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and aerospace company Lockheed Martin developed Auto-GCAS to perform automatic avoidance maneuvers to prevent ground collisions. It mentions that Auto-GCAS is set for adoption in the Lockheed Martin F-22 and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. It also states that a space shuttle mission in 2000 provided detailed terrain data for the system.
