Abstract

Abstract: The interfacial stress arising between thin structures bonded to a 2D elastic substrate has been investigated in the present work. Chebyshev polynomials have been adopted to approximate the shear stress occurring across the contact region. Perfect adhesion has been assumed among the coating structures and the underlying substrate, leading to a singular integral equation which has been reduced to an algebraic system. Thin bonded structures having several geometric configurations under different load conditions have been considered. In particular, the stress concentration in the neighborhood of the coating edges and around the points of load application has been evaluated in detail. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
