Abstract
- The article focuses on the study in Baltimore, Maryland regarding the effect of cataract surgery on the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Dr. Neil M. Bressler, chief of the Retina Division of the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, states that cataract surgery does not increase the risk of AMD progression. Dr. Bressler mentions a theory stating that inflammation that can be induced by cataract surgery may cause the progression of AMD.
