Abstract

The article presents a literary criticism of the "Aeneid" of Virgil, focusing on the long-standing disagreement over the meaning of the Latin word 'rettulit' when Aeneas is visiting the future site of Rome. The controversy goes back as far as the late 4th century figure Servius Danielus, who offered two explanations.
