Abstract
- The article presents the author's personal reflections as a history professor in the U.S. during the second half of the 20th-century. The author gives several anecdotes from his own career in academia, charting the development of his credentials and faculty positions. Broader comments are also given discussing the larger characteristics and trends which have come about in historical scholarship from his entrance into the field in the 1960s to the 2000s when he retired. Conclusions are given reflecting on the future trajectory of the discipline.
