Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of different lateral spacing on fiber quality parameters (fiber thickness, fiber length, fiber strength) and some yield parameters (plant height, boll weight, 100 seed weight, lint percentage, the number of fruiting branch) and of cotton in the Research and Application Farm of Faculty of Agriculture at Adnan Menderes University during the year of 2009. Experiment was set up out in randomized plot design with two factors and three replications. Trials comprised two lateral spacing (0.70 m – 1.40 m) within each of which three different watering regimes (100, 75 and 50 % of 8 - day cumulative Class-A pan evaporation) were applied. According to the research results, both lateral spacing and irrigation levels significantly influenced fiber quality parameters and yield components. The highest irrigation water level was applied to the full irrigation treatment (T and T ) for both lateral spacing. Seasonal water use values in the treatments varied from 495.6 mm 1 4 to 723.4 mm. Maximum and minimum seed cotton yield were obtained from the T and T treatments as averaging 4 3 648.6 kg/da and 537.2 kg/da, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
