Abstract

This article focuses on assessments of learning in libraries. The authors discuss an approach to library learning assessment used at the Auraria Library at the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado, which allows librarians to improve the quality of assessment and instruction tools by studying the components of learning. They emphasize the use of three assessment tools, including pretest and posttest sets, posttests, and activities, and address the strengths and weaknesses associated with each tool. Topics include the role of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in learning, and the formats of assessment tools.
