Abstract

In this article the author discusses the relationship between academic libraries and academic publishing in the U.S. She argues that academic libraries should follow the lead of the University of Michigan, which has merged its library and publishing groups to provide free online books, and use limited financial resources to acquire publishing rights for scholarly work done at the school in an effort to prevent poor research from being be published by non-reputable publishers.
