Abstract: The article introduces research reported in the issue, noting topics that include kinetic analysis of the assembly of macromolecular machines called spliceosomes, prehistoric hunter-gatherer groups and their composition of genetically unrelated individuals, and polymorphisms found in the AHR2 gene of Hudson River tomcod fish that have developed resistance to the toxic effects associated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
