Abstract

The article offers the author's insights on the capability of chemistry departments in the academic setting, particular the University of Grand Traditions (UGT). The author ponders on the possible removal of the chemistry department, which he considered as a department that is designed to teach students ans produce research data that deal with significant social issues. The author also comments on the ability of UGT organic chemist professor R. B. Flask to create an expertise in the area of organic chemistry as one of the better choices with regard to making decisions that engaged the teaching and research of the field. The author also mentions that a balanced department must consist of a spectrum of research types from context that is justifiable with regard to societal needs.
