Abstract

The article presents the author's views on the usability of electronic medical records (EMRs) in the U.S. He highlights the arguments of Shahid Shah, chief executive officer (CEO) of Netspective Communications, that physicians have moved away from EMRs due to their negative impact on productivity. However, according to the author, EMRs will achieve their potential to improve and efficiency in health information documentation. He also argues that regulatory intervention are not the cause of EMRs usability problem but believes that the combination of user-friendly EMRs and customers is the most efficient way of improving EMR usability.
