Abstract

LIBYA Allied fighters struck targets in Tripoli on a fourth day of airstrikes, but forces loyal to Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi showed no signs of ending their sieges of cities held by rebels. Attacks by pro-Qaddafi forces were particularly intense in the western cities of Zintan and Misurata, where snipers and artillery killed 40 people, a rebel spokesman said. YEMEN President Ali Abdullah Saleh clung to power despite continuing antigovernment demonstrations. There were also signs of fragmentation among the nation's main military units. EGYPT After thousands of police officers demanding higher wages and the resignation of a new interior minister protested in Cairo, the upper floors of a building in the Interior Ministry compound became engulfed in flames. At least eight people were injured, security officials said, and 12 protesters were arrested on suspicion of arson. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
