Abstract

The article focuses on efforts by the Chinese government to put constraints on its money supply and the lending of its banks. It states China's broad money supply, including a variety of bank deposits and currency, grew by 15.7 percent in 2011 to February, which gives the People's Bank of China hope of remaining within its target of 16 percent for 2011. It mentions reported loans by Chinese banks were lower than expected and that Chinese businesses reported credit was as tight as in June 2008.
