Abstract: The article discusses insurer American International Group's (AIG's) offer to purchase back from the U.S. Federal Reserve subprime mortgage bonds it sold to the Fed in 2008 as part of a government bailout of AIG. The Fed must balance the interests of AIG with those of taxpayers in deciding whether to sell the bonds to AIG, invite other bids, or postpone action.
