Abstract

This paper conducts a content analysis of the current National Security Knowledge textbook in Turkey, and compares the results to those in the literature - in order to determine whether the past problems with the textbook cited by previous research still persist in the new version, and if so, to what extent. Findings indicate that, despite the wide-ranging efforts within the ongoing process to adapt Turkey's political system to that of the EU, the textbooks still inculcate the inherent nationalist and militarist elements of the early Republican ideology, which, being a product of the interwar period (1918-1939), explicitly rejects supranational or universal values. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
