Abstract
- The article assesses the institutional organization of banking supervision and its implication for supervisory policy. According to the author, excessive risk taking by a banker can be prevented by banking supervision. The elements on the contract of a bank supervisor required in effective banking supervision are political independence, accountability arrangements and legal protection. He suggests giving the supervisor a reward when he has made a right closure decision.
