While not specifically designed for cartographic purposes, Excel and other spreadsheet programs have been used in various ways to create maps, and offer the advantages of ubiquity and simplicity over specialized software. This article demonstrates the capability of Excel's scatter-plot graphing function to create maps by mapping a complicated section of the Germano-Belgian boundary using survey data taken from a boundary treaty atlas.
