Method: Data of 61 patients, who admitted to our policlinic and had enuresis nocturna with this diagnosis September 2007 to June 2008, were screened. Findings: Of the subjects, 57.4% were males and 42.6% were females. Most of the cases (63.9%) were observed at 5-10 years of age while 36.1% occurred 11-16 years of age. Positive family history was found in 78.7% of children with enuresis. In the history deep sleep and difficulty in awakening is obtained in 60.7% of the children with enuresis. In 37.7% of cases stressor factors accomEtpany enuresis. Primary enuresis was seen in 70.5% of cases. There was another accompanying psychiatric disorder in 72.1% of enuresis nocturna cases; the most common concomitant disorder was encopresis (27.9%). The other frequent disorders are mental retardation (19.7%), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (18%), and enuresis diurna (18%) respectively. It was determined that behavioral treatment had been used in 93.4% of cases. Discussion and Conclusion: All of the families were determined to take prevention against enuresis. Presence of significantly high stress in secondary enuresis implies need to assessment of psychosocial factors in etiopathogenesis. Enuresis nocturna must be treated, as it is a disease that can result in low self-esteem, and some secondary psychological problems. It is necessary to inform the parents wherever they are met, especially at primary health care settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
