Abstract
- The article focuses on the charge-coupled device (CCD) images of Mercury in which conditions match the observations of Italian astronomer Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli. To study Mercury, Schiaparelli used the equatorial mount's setting circles to flush the planet from its hiding place in the midday sky. The Italian astronomer published "On the Rotation of Mercury" that includes a map of the supposed daylight side of the planet in November 1889.
