Abstract
- The article focuses on the growing number of lawyers, especially those of Chinese origins, who are transferring from Western to Chinese law firms, as of February 2011. Lawyer Mary Utterback relates how her previous notion of Chinese law firms has changed when she joined the law firm King & Wood in Shanghai, China. The tendency of multinational corporations investing in China to turn to local firms for inbound legal work is noted. Utterback says that practicing Chinese lawyers in Chinese law firms is a critical resource lacking in foreign firms.
