Abstract: The article warns that British research councils focusing larger funds on a smaller number of projects would reduce the availability of small grants for individuals and stifle scientific creativity, according to researchers. It notes that David Delpy, chief executive of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, discussed the possibility of fewer but larger grants during a hearing of the House of Lords Science and Technology Committee in November 2010. The issue was raised allegedly due to 30% savings being demanded from the councils.
