Abstract

Introduction: The laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia was introduced today as an alternative to conventional repair of inguinal hernia in children, however its use is less accepted. The aim of this paper is to present the experience gained with the implementation of inguinal plasty minimally invasive approach. Material and Methods: We performed a prospective observational study, we randomly selected patients aged between one and 14 years of age with clinically diagnosed unilateral inguinal hernia, performing laparoscopic surgical repair. Results: We selected 64 patients with clinical diagnosis of unilateral inguinal hernia, in which patients underwent laparoscopic inguinal plasty, making exploration of contralateral side under endoscopic vision. The incidence of bilateral inguinal hernia in male patients was 10%, and female patients 13%, operating time ranged between 20 and 55 min. None of the patients had postoperative complications or trans, or recurrences in a follow-up to three years to five months. Discussion: The results obtained in this study reported that the prevalence in the symptomatic side was right, with a lower incidence than reported, the age range do not change the bibliographic documents, being a safe alternative to have low incidence of complications and immediate and delayed contralateral exploration can not be so surgical aggression.
