Abstract

It is generally thought that the various third-order Raman spectroscopic techniques are equivalent to spontaneous Raman scattering, even when inhomogeneous broadening is present. Experimental observations show that certain of these techniques are complementary in certain cases. We give here the simple explanation for this complementarity. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.
