Abstract

The article presents a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the Hunter Illawarra Kids Challenge Using Parent Support physical activity program for overweight children in New South Wales. The evaluation involve three intervention programs, the child-centered physical activity skill development program, parent-centered dietary modification program, and both programs combined. It examined movement skill proficiency, perceived athletic competence, accelerometer-assessed physical activity, and parent-reported time spent in screen behaviors. It cites the efficacy of the activity and the combined activity and diet programs in improving the movement skill proficiency of obese children. It further notes the efficacy of the three programs in lessening time spent in screen behaviors.
