Abstract

The article analyzes the presence of feminist writing in Nigeria, focusing on the feminist aspects of the poetics of literary critic Lynn Chukura. Specific emphasis is given to the feminist aspects of her work "Archetyping." The author believes that Chukura should be identified with the third phase of feminism, which came about in response to the masculine nationalism of anti-colonial movements. Chukura's poems in "Archetyping" deal with themes of sexism, the race identity of Americo-Nigerians, and patriarchy. Her challenging of masculine archetypes is discussed.
