Abstract

The article discusses the complications that arise from surgical treatment of early onset scoliosis (EOS). EOS can be a symptom of thoracic insufficiency syndrome and EOS hampers the normal growth of the spine, thorax and lungs. Treatment of EOS may be through surgery to enable body growth and delay the onset of deformity of the spine. Surgical techniques include the spinal growing rods (GR) or vertical expandable prosthetic titanium rib (VEPTR).
