In this article the authors discuss aspects of Turkey's foreign policy current during January 2011. Turkey's shift toward the Middle Eastern states and away from the nations of the west is noted. A number of topics are addressed including Turkey's prevention of the passage of U.S. troops through its territory on their way to the Iraq War, the actions of Tayyip Recep Erdogan, the prime minister of Turkey, and the state of foreign relations between Turkey and Iran. Also discussed is the impact of the deaths of several Turkish citizens in a clash with the Israelis.
