Abstract

The article discusses a court case involving the Pulp Mills on the River Uruguay. The case was brought before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on April 20, 2010 when Argentina instituted proceedings against Uruguay for alleged breaches of the provisions of the Statute of the River Uruguay, arising out of the proposal of Uruguay to put up two pulp mills on the river. Argentina argued that the procedure followed by Uruguay in authorizing the establishment of the pulp mills violated the Statute. The decision of the ICJ on the case is presented.
