Abstract
- The article discusses the satirical poem "An allusion to Tacitus," by English poet John Wilmot, referred to throughout the article as Rochester due to his peerage title 2nd Earl of Rochester. A history of the publication of the manuscripts containing the poem is provided. The discovery of the satire in the Brotherton Collection at Leeds University in Leeds, England, and at the Beinecke Library at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut is discussed. Ascriptions headed to the various manuscripts of the poem are described.
