Pakistan Planning Large Hydro Project To Relieve Siltation Downstream at Tarbela.

The article reports on the plans of the Pakistani government to enlarge generating capacity of the Indus River's Tarbela dam and to build a larger Diamer Basha hydroelectric project. Diamer Basha will be located more than 300 kilometers upriver of the Tarbela dam but will increase the lower plant's output by reducing sedimentation. Siltation in Indus has induced its reservoir capacity by nearly 30% since the completion of the dam in 1974.
