Abstract

The article reports on the findings of a study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania concerning the method for evaluating the vulnerability of dogs to hip dysplasia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It states that 80 percent of the dogs evaluated by the traditional American method were at risk for developing hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis (OA). According to Dr. Gail Smith, lead author of the study, the risk of OA is associated with the joint laxity.
