Abstract

The article discusses the clinical practice and research involved prerenal azotemia. According to the author, the idea of prerenal azotemia is integrated in the clinical practice of nephrology. Some researchers claim that the separation of prerenal azotemia from acute tubular necrosis (ATN) is flawed, unnecessary and unfeasible. The author claims that AKI that involves true structural kidney injury could still be of short term.
