Abstract
- The article discusses a report within the issue that examines toxic chemicals in toys and children's products including the limitations, resources, and recommendations for government and industry. The authors provide an example of painted wooden trains that were recalled because the paint used was in violation of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC's) standard for lead (Pb) in paint. They argue that violations involving unsafe levels of Pb and other chemicals contained in paint, such as cadmium (Cd), not uncommon, discuss why toxic chemicals in toys is a serious issue, and present a list of toxic chemicals found in toys, including phthalates, brominated flame retardants (BFRs), and bisphenol A (BPA), which includes U.S. regulations for children's products.
