Abstract

This paper is an analysis and assessment of the changes in the national security and defense policies of the republic of Serbia since the end of the Milosevic era to the present time. It will analyze the changes in the global security system, EU and NATO have impacted the policy process and outcomes for defense and national security policy in Serbia. The paper will rely heavily on an analysis of the policy documents of the civil and military authorities in Serbia, as well as interviews with Serbian officials from the legislature, executive, ministry of defense, military and non-governmental organizations. The basic thesis is that the Serbian government and military have successfully aligned their national defense structure and policies very closely with North Atlantic security institutions and that the level of functional and doctrinal integration is now so high that Serbia's admission to NATO will just be a matter of time. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
