Abstract

This article analyzes several short stories by writer Takahashi Takako including "Holy Terror" and "The Boundless Void." The author discusses Takako's depiction of the traditional lifestyles of women in Japan and suggests that Takako's female characters are existentially unhappy with the role of housewife and mother. Themes of the stories are discussed including parenthood, childbearing, and suburban life.
