Abstract

The article presents an analysis of public opinion polls regarding the performance of U.S. President Barack Obama, contrasting the popularity he enjoyed in July 2009 with the decline in his poll numbers as of July 2010. Possible causes for this are discussed, and the theory that Obama over-reached by aggressively pushing a health-care reform bill which did not enjoy widespread support is noted. His involvement in government bailouts and increased regulation of the financial industry, in the wake of the global financial crisis which began in 2008, is also discussed in this context.
