Lithuanian and foreign cultivars of onions were investigated at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture of the organically grown experimental field in 2008-2009. Productivity and biochemical composition of edible onion is influenced by genetype and conditions of growing. Investigations showed that onions 'Babtu didieji' were more productive (yield - 15.1 t ha-1) than other investigated cultivars and produced turnips of average size (121. 0 g). In 2008-2009 during onion vegetation and storage there were found diseases, which were caused by pathogenic pathogenic fungi of the genera Peronospora and Botrytis.
