A close correlation between plasma and serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in healthy volunteers.

Objective. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a member of the neurotrophic family found in both the central and the peripheral nervous system. Blood BDNF levels are considered as a state marker for depression. Methods. We investigated serum and plasma levels of BDNF levels in 103 healthy volunteers (M/F: 39/64, age: 37±12 years) using ELISA methods. Results and Conclusions.
