The article reports that researchers from the University of Buffalo in New York have demonstrated how magnetic field can be used to control the electrical activity of neurons. The researchers used magnetic actuators to activate thermosensitive ion channels. Magnetic nanoparticles in the cell membranes transform the magnetic field into local heat. This local heat activates the ion channels.
