Abstract

Three Colombian documents signed by Antonio Nariño in 1821 are transcribed in this paper. The first seems to be a draft of a letter addressed to the Congress of Colombia offering a constitutional project of his own authorship. The second is an amanuensis' copy of that letter, with the corresponding answer of the Congress and the introduction of the aforementioned project. The third is a letter addressed to the Liberator Simón Bolívar in which Nariño tells him about his decision to submit the constitutional project in order to finish the confrontations between the two political parties of that time, centralism and federalism; and in which he also tells him about the latest events in Colombia. The manuscripts are analyzed formally to specify the typical features of the mastermind and of the copyist of the text; showing possible linguistic changes resulting from the transcription process Also, some comments will be made regarding some orthographic and phonetic characteristics of the documents which belong to American Spanish.
