Abstract

The article discusses the decline in the summer youth employment rate in the U.S. It says that the survey of the Northeastern University's Center for Labor Market Studies (CLMS) for the Mott Foundation shows that 29% of teenagers were working in June 2010, compared to the nearly 40% in 2007 and more than 51% in 2000. It mentions that the long term effects of lower employment rates for 16 to 19-year olds will lead to decreased employability and lower salaries when during adulthood.
