Abstract
- The article looks at the use of the term "significant harm" within child protection services in England and Wales. The author notes that, in order to assist children, local authorities must first prove that the child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm attributed to the caregiver. The threshold test, used to decide what constitutes significant harm in various situations, is reviewed. Several court cases which revolved around differing interpretations of "significant harm" in child care are discussed.
