Abstract

The article presents a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study which examines age-related changes of thoracic and cervical intervertebral discs (DSI) in asymptomatic patients. The study involved 97 Japanese patients who were subjected to an MRI of the thoracic and cervical spine. Researchers found that 46.8 percent of the patients showed positive degenerative MRI results at 1 or more thoracic intervertebral levels. They also found that 37.2 percentage of the patients showed positive MRI results in DSI.
