Abstract
- The article presents a study on the relationship between Medicare coverage, the marketing strategies of computer-aided detection (CAD) mammography, and uptake of CAD in the U.S. The study estimated the prevalence of CAD use during screening mammography among samples of Medicare enrollees. The findings showed that Medicare coverage can be linked with rapid diffusion of preventive technologies. Factors that may have aided the effort to lobby members of Congress to sponsor legislation adding Medicare benefits for digital mammography techniques are explored.
