Abstract

There was a certain where-am-I-now disorientation -- not as much as in the 1969 film ''If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium,'' perhaps, but enough to cause head-scratching and double takes. What happened to the V train? Why does the M seem to be going in a whole new direction? Where is the QM22? On Monday, the first weekday with major reductions in bus and subway service in New York, there was mostly a shared grin-and-bear-it attitude toward the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's reworking of schedules above ground and below. Commuters rearranged their routines and found new ways to go where the old familiar ones had taken them. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
