Fili sa Filipino: Piling-Piling Pilipitan.

It is the objective of this paper to prove that the state is using the El Filibusterismo of Jose Rizal to continue governing the independent consciousness of the youth. It is also the purpose to show that a method in critics can be used to catch the state in intriguing the field of ideology. The state deliberately pushes the nationalism of Rizal through the use of the system of education. The state does this in many ways, first in this is the requiring of the students in high school to read the discomfited version of El Filibusterismo. The text which will be used for analyzing is Chapter 13 of the novel El Filibusterismo, which depicts the story of a class in physics in University of Santo Tomas during the 19th Century. The post-colonial theory which was formulated by Renato Constantio and Bienvenido Lumbera will be used as the general theory. Also, employing the methods used by the critics following the Cultural Materialism in Britain, the New Historicism in the United States, and the post-colonial theories in the countries who are members of the British Commonwealth.
