Abstract

Investigates the hypothesis that there is a symbiotic action between acidity and oxidation on the depolymerization of cellulose, the main component of paper. Functional groups formed after oxidation of cellulose with hypochlorite, depending on pH; Effect of acidity on the depolymerization process; Discussion on the degradation of cellulose oxidized by aqueous solutions of metaperiodate at different concentrations.
