Abstract

The paper analyses India's publications output in three major international multidisciplinary databases, as indexed during 1981-2005. It reports on India's comparative strength in world science and technology (S&T) output, its growth and decline, its strong and weak subject areas of research, media of communication, its collaborative profile and quality of S&T output, institutional productivity and quality, and dynamics of Indian research at institutional and sectoral levels. The study also provides suggestions for improving the quantity and quality of research S&T in India. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
