Abstract: The article discusses events and circumstances surrounding the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC's) decision to charge Goldman Sachs Group Inc. with securities fraud in connection with a 2007 collateralized debt obligation that it sold. SEC Chair Mary Schapiro felt that her agency needed to prove it could aggressively prosecute alleged wrongdoers.
